Although the musicians from Buenos Aires never met with the Bulgarian musicians around bassist and producer Boyko Petkov during the production of Balkan Airs, their first joint album sounds like a unified whole. Balkan Airs combines the best of both worlds into a breathtaking mixture of Balkan rhythms with tango melodies and vice versa. The songs, most of which come from Otros Aires' repertoire, show enormous flexibility and can easily be pulled in a completely new direction by the driving Gipsy band. An album for Tango and Balkan fans and especially for listeners who have a desire for exciting new mixtures.Daniel Dinkel
