TCB Music – A true philosophy of jazz...!
TCB (Take Care of Business) has two meanings: one relates to the concept and personal musical attitude of the company's boss towards jazz, the other, clearly and inevitably... business!
Peter Schmidlin, a native of Basel and a man of conviction, decided very early on to become a drummer. He was one of the best and most sought-after drummers in Europe, as evidenced by recordings with Dexter Gordon, Woody Shaw, Benny Bailey, Eddie Daniels, Johnny Griffin, Clark Terry and many others.
In 1988, he decided to found the TCB label and commercially distribute the music that was so dear to his heart. In 1992, TCB moved into offices in Lausanne and in 1996 it moved to Montreux, where it was personally recognised by Claude Nobs as ‘TCB – The Montreux Jazz Label’.
For almost thirty years, until his death on 25 May 2014, Peter Schmidlin worked to realise his dream.
After a period of mourning, Barbara Frei Schmidlin, Peter's wife, decided to honour her late husband in the most beautiful way possible: by ensuring that the TCB adventure continues and that jazz lives on! Despite difficult socio-commercial circumstances for jazz productions, the equation works. At a time when more and more outstanding new musicians are seeking to make themselves heard, TCB feels obliged to continue serving this music and the musicians who have chosen to accompany it on part of their journey. There are many promising projects, and so the great adventure continues for the label conceived and created by Peter... What more could one wish for?
