"Trouble in the East Records" is a new record label that was founded by musicians in Berlin at the end of 2015.
The name refers on the one hand to our (East) Berlin homes and on the other to a piece of music composed by one of our musical idols, the great Ornette Coleman, who sadly passed away in the year we founded the label. (To be more precise, it is the piece "Trouble in the East" from the wonderful album "Crisis" from 1969).
What prompted us to set up our own record company was the desire for independence to release our "own" music and to create a platform to make it available to like-minded colleagues and friends. Despite the homage to this gigantic artist who started the so-called "free jazz" movement, we try to free ourselves from labels and cataloguing.
We want to present artists and projects on our label that are characterised by warmth and a sense of adventure and reflect precisely this spirit.
