Discography
Blaise Cendrars is a unique character in French literature. He dabbled in many fields, from business to movies to reporting, but decided poetry was his vocation. He persisted in being one of the freest men of his generation, understanding that life is more important than literature. Nevertheless, the publication in 1912 and 1913 of Les Pâques à New-York and of the Prose du Transsibérien et de la Petite Jeanne de France succeeded in revolutionizing modern poetry. The Prose du Transsibérien et de la Petite Jeanne de France has become a museum piece because of not only the text but the format and illustrations. This album provides the only complete recording of the poem available—and the only one combining voice with montages. Cendrars heard and approved it before his death. For all these reasons, this CD deserves particular attention.
