Starting with Franz Schubert’s great ballad “Der Taucher” (“The Diver”), which is based on Friedrich Schiller, Michael Volle leads the way through a program of lieder with Helmut Deutsch that includes Hugo Wolf and Richard Strauss, but also lieder by Hermann Reutter that are still awaiting a wider audience in the concert halls.
Michael Volle was trained by Josef Metternich and Rudolf Piernay. He was a member of the ensemble at the opera houses of Mannheim, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Zurich. He is now permanently engaged with the ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera. His roles include Marcello (La Bohème), Jeletzki (Pique Dame), Count Almaviva in (Le nozze di Figaro), Sixtus Beckmesser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Bayreuth Festival 2007 and 2008), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Wozzeck and Eugen Onegin. A significant part of his work comprises concert singing and lieder, and he has already worked with Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Riccardo Muti,James Levine, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Valery Gergiev, among others.
