In life, as in love, it’s easy to lose your way through all the twists and turns. On Østerlide’s third
album, Villfar og Sylverklar, human lives unfold between mythical creatures with supernatural
powers and the shifting moods - and occasional brutality - of nature.
Caught - by other creatures, beneath snow and ice, or by their own emotions.
In this world of medieval ballads and broadside songs, old melodies and stories become entwined
with Østerlide’s own sonic world: Brittle tones from the langeleik rise over shimmering bells; violin
bows draw trembling, squealing sounds from stringed drums and electric guitar; and a wealth of
ringing, crackling sounds from unlikely percussion instruments flicker through the air.
At the heart of it all are stories that have travelled down through the centuries. Their clear melodies
and intricate ornaments wind their way through the soundscapes. We like to think they have found a
home here, even though they come from another time - and will travel on into the future.
