5th Season to Release Their First Live Album – an Intense and Uncompromising Document of the Finnish Prog Ensemble’s On‑Stage Power
Finnish progressive rock supergroup 5th Season will release their first-ever live album on December 5, 2025. Simply titled Live, the album was recorded during two concerts on the band’s 2024 Finland tour. Consisting of five expansive tracks, the release captures the band’s on-stage chemistry with energy, openness, and raw authenticity – without the use of on-stage backing tracks, just the band playing as a live quartet.
The album features powerful live versions of compositions from the band’s acclaimed debut album, delivering the same massive sonic landscapes and deep emotional atmosphere, now brought to life with the vitality and breath of a live performance. True to the progressive rock tradition, improvisation plays a major role, offering listeners familiar with the debut fresh and adventurous reinterpretations.
A special highlight of the release is guest drummer Jaakko Pöyhönen, known for his work with Tinyhawk & Bizarro and winner of the 2025 Teosto Prize, one of Finland’s most prestigious music awards. Pöyhönen brings an explosive interpretive energy that adds a new dimension to 5th Season’s already dynamic sound.
The band’s music reflects a deep love for 1970s progressive rock, drawing inspiration from influences such as Pink Floyd, Wigwam, Yes, and Procol Harum. Live documents a group unafraid to stretch compositions, embrace spontaneity, and shape each performance into a unique musical journey.
Released in May 2023, the band’s debut album 5th Season received excellent reviews, including 5/5 in Helsingin Sanomat (Finland’s largest newspaper) and praise in PROG Magazine, the world’s leading progressive rock publication. The album featured guest appearances by Wigwam co-founder Jukka Gustavson and longtime Pink Floyd vocalist Durga McBroom. The band is currently recording their second studio album, scheduled for release in late 2026.
