      The sole recording of Marie Hare of New Brunswick, Canada, this is a field recording from a festival in Miramachi, New Brunswick. In this selection, Hare sings unaccompanied broadside ballads - these are "popular" as opposed to "traditional" ballads, coming from a printed tradition originating in England as far back as the 16th century. The topics of Hare's songs are mostly tragic, often discussing romance or death. This unique record presents a rare glimpse into the singing tradition of Canada's maritime provinces.
