      Description hide

Paul Dangl, co-founder of the band "Nim Sofyan", starts a new and exciting project named "Black Market Tune". "Black Market Tune" disperses dust from the Highlands to the Alps. Paul Dangl, Colin Nicholson, Christian Troger and Johanna Kugler rummage ancient sheet music in old attics and archives in order to resurrect them: They bring to light Swedish songs about death, Scottish drinking songs and Austrian yodelers. They reinterpret old material and turn it into something new and unique. With a mixture of own compositions and reinterpretations they withdraw from dull Folk clichés and present the progressive and inventive album „Drifters & Vagabonds“.

"Black Market Tune" sounds like blazing schnaps and smoky Whiskey. On the one side the tunes are rough and untamed, on the other side they are lyrical and speak to the bottom of one's heart. "Black Market Tune" has created a sound which incorporates Jazz, Blues and electronic elements. A sound that creeps into your bones. With the keen sense of European music tradition the band builds bridges across countries, generations and styles. "Black Market Tune" is a mosaic that is put together from the musical backgrounds of the four band members. Their basis is the joy of playing and improvisation.

"Black Market Tune" has won the „Austrian World Music Advancement Award“. The band toured Australia two times upon the recommendation of the Irish Folk master Andy Irvine.

      About the band:
Paul Dangl is an exceptionally gifted violinist and renowned World and Jazz musician. Colin Nicholson is one of the most trend-setting accordion players in Scotland and tours internationally with the extraordinary project „Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra“. The South Tyrolean guitar player Christian Troger is a true connoisseur of Celtic Folk and grants drifty rhythm to the tunes. The vigorous Viennese violinist and vocalist Johanna Kugler originates in the Alpine Folk music.
