The Cultural Circle of German Business presents its
competition “Sound and Explanation – Conveying
Works in Music and Word” once every year. The
winner of the 2009 competition, which was held for
violoncello, was Valentin Radutiu.
Born in Munich, Radutiu studied with Clemens
Hagen, Heinrich Schiff, David Geringas and Claudio
Bohorquez. On his debut CD, he presents not only
a selection of standard works, but also illustrates his
interest for new and unusual repertoire. He takes
Saint-Saëns’ “Introduction and Rondo capriccioso”, a
highly virtuoso showpiece for the violin, for example,
and arranges it for the first time for violoncello. Peter
Ruzicka was commissioned by the Cultural Circle to
write a work for this year’s competition. The result
was RECITATIVO, a dramatic and virtuosic showpiece
for violoncello and piano.
