The idea for Aegina’s Secret was born after a visit to the island of
Aegina, one of the Saronic Islands near Athens. The encounters I
had there, the diverse people I met, and the unique atmosphere of
the island inspired me to begin composing and recording. At that
time, I already had a few demos, and the experience motivated me
to complete the rest of the album.
The album consists mainly of my original compositions, alongside
a few covers that mark important stages of my artistic journey and
influences:
- Misirlou – A melody known worldwide through Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, but originally an anonymous tune from the Ottoman era, later embraced by the Greek Rembetiko tradition.
-
Lo Eda (I Wouldn’t Know) – A Hebrew song I wrote and composed. The lyrics are deeply personal, born out of pain, reflecting my emotions since the events of October 7th and their aftermath — carrying grief, despair, and the weight of the situation.
-
Feel It – My tribute to the great Kate Bush, a personal interpretation of a song from her debut album The Kick Inside.
- Aegina’s Secret – The title track, directly inspired by my experiences and impressions of Aegina. This project also represents my ongoing wish to build bridges between cultures and voices. For this album, I invited musicians from different countries where I have lived, creating a dialogue of sounds and traditions:
-
From Sweden: clarinetist Saman Alias and guitarist Clas Olofsson
-
From Turkey: trombonist Burak Dursun
- From Israel: Tal Avraham (trumpet), Dror Teboul (double bass), Yankale Segal (electric bass), and Tzahi Ventura (ney)
As with my previous releases, Norwegian Oud and Back Home — both of which received very positive reviews
— I continue to explore the fusion of my Mediterranean roots, expressed through the traditional Maqam scales,
with Western traditions such as jazz.
