      Description hide

The Symbiosis Ensemble was created from the connection between the musician couple Anne and Gary Fuhrmann and their shared desire to explore musically exciting connections. The two are generally interested in overcoming boundaries, connecting playfully and expanding structures. They do this through the symbiosis of different artistic worlds and the search for intersections, in this case between classical music and the improvisational structures of jazz.

Anne Fuhrmann (*1980) is a clarinettist of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Gary Fuhrmann (*1978) is a freelance jazz musician (saxophone and clarinet). The two woodwind players form the core of the Symbiosis Ensemble, which varies depending on the composition. This currently consists of up to nine members, and its program presents works by contemporary composers who are interested in a classical/jazz symbiosis. If one were to categorize this concept stylistically, the term "crossover" would be quite appropriate.

In addition to the composition "Jazzset for 2 Clarinets" by William O. Smith (clarinettist with Dave Bru- beck), Symbiosis also presents Klaus von Heydenaber’s arrangements of "Addio a Cheyenne" (Ennio Morricone) and "Tango" (Igor Stravinsky), as well as "September Elegy" and the "Jazz-Concerto for Alto- Saxophone and Bassclarinet: 2nd Movement", both composed by Heydenaber. He lives in Munich whe- re he has written music for his own jazz orchestra, numerous theater productions and a classical opera. Three live recordings from a concert recording in quintet formation (without string quartet) from Febru- ary 2024 in Worms round off the overall picture of this production : "Addio a Cheyenne" (Morricone), "Nightslider" (Heydenaber) and "Creole Love Call" (Ellington).
