After the success of Ornette Under the Repetitive Skies and La Litanie des Cimes, renowned French violinist Clément Janinet joins BMC Records with yet another band, Space Galvachers. Their first album, Sounds of Brelok, predominantly built on modern jazz, then Lo Swar featured danceable world music at its best. The new album, simply titled Folk Songs, strikes a balance between the two characters: it returns to the instrumental jazz roots of the debut album, while the concept is based on elements of French folklore, providing an unrestricted and continuous access to the refreshingly popular medium of world music. Three musicians who started off from the ground of jazz and improvised music, and have been trained in African, Arab and Creole music cultures alongside Ballaké Sissoko, Naïssam Jalal or Oumou Sangaré, deliver imaginary folk songs in a both meditative and visceral way.
