The Moonband - Relations
"Relations" is the name of the new album by The Moonband (release date June 2025). The sixth full-length album has audibly gained Pop and dance elements. Synthesizer and ukulele as the soundtrack for couple therapy. The Moonband position themselves between nightlife and privacy. They are not being squeamish, especially not with themselves.
As people and relationships change, so does the sound of The Moonband, the group and the people behind the music. For this album in particular, the band didn't take the easy way out with their relationship to their musical selves: The arrangement process was completely broken down - discussed, wrestled with, discarded and reworked. The group dived deep into the dark soul of the lyrics. The band was honest to the core about themselves and their personal issues. In the end, every word, every note, every beat on "Relations" sits where it belongs.
What the therapist is in psychology, the producer is in music. Markus Harbauer (Exclusive, Mola) has taken on this task, given the band a juicy groove treatment and introduced some innovations in the recording process, while at the same time, as good therapists do, working out the strengths of this relationship. Some acoustic instruments had to make way for pads and synthesizers. Nevertheless, mandolin and ukulele remain and harmonious vocals form the musical heart of this production, with all three singers taking on the role of front woman or man. And for those who just can't believe it: Yes, despite all the Disco passages, this album was recorded live, in an old wooden house, far out in the woods.
The cover design of “Relations” is also a novelty: For the first time, the members of The Moonband show themselves - here too, honesty is not spared - with wrinkles and gray hair, staged by Illustrator and Game Designer Christian Reiner. The front cover features both the youngest and the oldest musician of the group. Elena Rakete's and Katrin Bobek's double portrait shows two generations of female musicians who - if we are honest - are the moral soul of this band.
Audibly and visibly, The Moonband have matured (although they are still far from being grown up). On “Relations”, you can hear the interpersonal issues that thirty to fifty-year-olds struggle with in different situations in life. Truth or dare - at least in terms of content, “Relations” is not for the first kiss. Rather an album for the next conflict that can give you the strength to be honest with yourself and your friends and still prefer rather to dance than brood.
“Relations” will be released on the band's own label Intertune Records, distributed by Galileo Music.
