It is possible to regard Georg Ruby’s Trio “VILLAGE ZONE“
as a new interpretation of the classical piano jazz trio. In
its improvisations the album “Saluti a Peppino“ represents
structural progress of the jazz trio turning it into, as one
might say, a “whole” instrument, a unique body of sound
avoiding the leading character of the piano. Sascha Ley,
female vocalist from Luxemburg, is featured on four of the
songs. In the intense version of Michel Legrand’s “What Are
You Doing the Rest of Your Life“ the quality of a spiritually
communicative alliance becomes concrete straight away.
Otherwise “Saluti a Peppino“ is a daring piece of music.
The chuzpe of the trio’s musicians performing the songs
“St. Tropez Twist“ and “Le Stelle d’Oro“, compositions of
the Italian pop folk grandmaster Peppino di Capri, by
singing and playing, pays tribute to di Capri’s originals and
shows how much excessive fun, how much materialised
endorphin can be produced by an extraordinary band.
