      About The Cyclic Night

The Cyclic Night is a journey of inspiration and wander in the cycles of life. The cycles intertwine in one another, beginning meets an end and starts yet anew. In one night, two sisters let one Tango Apasionado lead them in a maze, connecting old and new worlds, combining passions. The Rough Dancer and The Cyclical Night theatrical suite by Astor Piazzolla was a revelation for us. It sparked our imagination in inventing a narrative relaying on our personal lives, hopes, dreams and loves. This inspiration, derived from Piazzolla and our stories, awakened in us the music we grew up on and took us to find new music from within, combining the past with the present and into our vision of a future that fuses classical music with other influences. In this album is a meeting point of Baroque pieces arranged in our personal tone, Baroque, Tango, Contemporary. We ended up creating our own suite inspired by Piazzolla’s oeuvre, with no limits of centuries. This is our personal cycle. We welcome you to The Cyclic Night.

Sisters Telalit Charsky and Nuphar Fey

About the original pieces and arrangements

The original pieces and arrangements in this album come from the same artistic urge of bending old conventions with experimentation of new ideas. This comes to expression, for example, with taking the basis of J.S Bach’s harmonies for the Eb prelude (BWV 853) and creating a new piece while incorporating tensions and changing structures according to modern fusion perception (Intro, track 1). This leads to the piano prelude with soft delicate bandoneon lines - an afterthought of intimate emotion (intro composed and arranged by myself).
This way of thinking pours into the Albinoni Adagio orchestration (co-arranged by the sisters) with additions of harmonies influenced by Neo-Classical, Modern Jazz and Tango Nuevo. In the arrangement for the Gigue from cello suite n.5 (BWV 1011) a strong jazz influence is recognizable along with an Israeli tone in the solo Intro of the bass. The Intro “Dark” for the Bach cello suite (composed by T. Charsky) meets the theatrical approach of this program and the wish to capture the strong yet reserved emotion in the Prelude that follows.

      Nuphar Fey

I met Nuphar in the CODARTS of Rotterdam, where she performed an amazing recital full of art and brilliant ideas that caught my interest. Then I met Telalit, her sister, which from the first moment appeared to me as one of the best violoncello players that I have ever heard. I immediately wanted to be a part of their project together. Jean-René is one the of the most experienced and talented bass players in France, and I have collaborated with him and Gustavo Beytelmann in the past. It has been such a joy to share this music with these amazing artists!

      Victor Hugo Villena

“Hola, c’est Victor… 2 soeurs cherchent un contrebassiste pour un projet de Tango - Fusion, ça te tente?” ? Here’s you end up not knowing how, immersed in this magical musical world, disconnected from reality, spontaneous symbiosis with 3 strong personalities united by an unknown but strangely familiar direction. A few days together, eternal value.
