The composer and bandoneon player from Argentina MARCELO MERCADANTE, together with this
Porteño Quintet, releases this amazing new album where Marcelo performs a full self-penned
repertoire.
Once again the composer updates himself and releases a new work where different musical influences
shape this album of eclectic spirit. With this spirit we go in depth into the tracks of “Justamente”:
“JUSTAMENTE” starts out with “Para Luca”, a track to confirm that Marcelo belongs to tango world, but
built up over an obstinate rock to let the music go into free improvisation by the hand of sublime
guitarist Javier Feierstein.
“Miñon” and “Diurna” are two milonga/candombe tunes where the composer also makes room for the
freshness of improvisation.
“Laiave” is a track where tango language get along naturally with Argentinian folk rhythms; an inusual
approach within this genre.
The song that gives title to the album is the only one with voice. A beautiful track where Mercadante
and the author of the lyrics, Pablo Marchetti, show once again, as they previously did on “Suburbios del
alma”, they are a marvellous song makers team. “Justamente” shows a masterful performance by
special guest vocalist Elba Picó, who recently passed away and makes of this song her last bequest. This
album is completely dedicated to her.
“El baile del gallo y el león” is the track where Marcelo doubtlessly shows his deep knowledge of tango
tradition.
As a bonus, Mercadante includes a piano sonata called “Tres Puntos”, an exquisite work with a fabulous
solo performance by pianist Gustavo Llull.
“Justamente” is a versatile unit where the different elements that define it get along and flow in natural
state. It’s undeniable that if sound were the ocean, the boat where Marcelo Mercadante is sailing on
would be Tango... on a trip where music makes continuous changes to carry on with the journey...
