Peter I. Tschaikowsky
Symphony No. 6 „Pathétique“
Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern
Christoph Poppen, conductor
With the recordings of Peter Tchaikovsky’s First and
Fourth Symphonies, Christoph Poppen and the Deutsche
Radio Philharmonie have already demonstrated
their ability to lend these popular works a unique,
almost chamber-musical quality. Naturally, however,
an ensemble like the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie is
capable of developing pure power and lavish splendor
at any time, so that nothing can stand in the way of an
exhilarating Tchaikovsky experience.
The orchestra came into being in 2007 when the
Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken was combined
with the Rundfunkorchester Kaiserslautern.
GMD Christoph Poppen melded the two ensembles
into one homogeneous and flexible group that carries
on the tradition of its two predecessors. The first OehmsClassics
CD production with this orchestra under
the baton of maestro Poppen was the complete symphonies
of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (OC 709).
