Johannes Martin Kränzle

Discography

With the programme of their latest recording, Johannes Martin Kränzle and his pianist Hilko Dumno shed light on common features and differences between Lied cycles of the Christian Central European and Jewish East European traditions. Always at the centre of focus are faith and the peoples’ way of life, together with the question of human finiteness inevitably bound with these subjects. Thus the Twelve Yiddish Lieder by the largely unknown composer Richard Rudolf Klein meet Gustav Mahler’s Lieder from Youth’s Magic Horn, in which Jewish rhythms and melodies repeatedly shine forth; Frank Martin’s cycle Six Monologues from Everyman meets Maurice Ravel’s Deux mélodies hébraïques.
