When the first LP by La Lupe Con el Diablo en el cuerpo (SHELL011) came out she was already a big star in La Habana due to her explosive shows at the cities night clubs. Her first two albums exposed her to an international audience and also called the attention of some great masters of latin music. In 1964 she was recording with Mongo Santamaría and his orchestra, and by 1965 the great maestro Tito Puente had asked her to join forces with him in two excellent albums, the second of which you have now on your hands. It has been said that La Lupe was more effective when backed by a smaller band rather than a big orchestra, and yet the resukls of her association with Tito Puente are unbeatable. Famed jazz composer and bandleader Tito Puente was born Ernesto Antonio Puente Jr. in New York City on April 20, 1923. He grew up in New York's Spanish Harlem and became a professional musician at just 13 years old. After having played with the legendary Machito Orchestra and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he formed his own orchestra in 1948, soon becoming a sensation in the Latin music scene. The Exciting Lupe Sings–Tito Puente Swings is an amazing LP that combines the talent of both figures and guarantees big party at any flat or latin sounds club at any time.
