Einstein's quote suggests that beauty alone can be empty, but that the added element of mystery is what communicates depth and drama. With this in mind, acclaimed New York-based pianist Lewis Porter has composed and arranged the ten tracks included in his new album 'Beauty & Mystery', which was recorded with John Patitucci on double bass and Terri Lyne Carrington on drums. Saxophonist Tia Fuller (courtesy of Mack Avenue Records) is featured on two tracks.

This album will mark the first time that Carrington and Patitucci have a recorded a full album of straight ahead acoustic jazz together. They are old friends and have recorded tracks on a variety of albums, but nobody has ever heard the amazing work they can do on a program of straight ahead and standard tunes.

Lewis Porter, PhD, is the jazz professor at the Rutgers campus in Newark. He has performed on piano across the USA and Europe with Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano, Gary Bartz, Wycliffe Gordon, Ravi Coltrane, Marc Ribot, and many others, and has recorded with Liebman, Ribot, Bartz, etc. He received a Grammy nomination in 1995. He appears on 23 albums as a co-leader or sideman and has recorded 4 albums as a bandleader, three of which for Altrisuoni.

Terri Lyne Carrington is a Grammy award-winning drummer, composer and bandleader. After an extensive touring career of over 20 years with luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Cassandra Wilson, Clark Terry, Dianne Reeves and more, she returned to her hometown in Massachusetts, where she was appointed professor at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, receiving also an honorary doctorate in 2003.

John Patitucci is a two-time Grammy award-winning jazz bass player and composer, with a very long list of collaborations as a studio musician, live performer, and bandleader. His association with Chick Corea, from 1985, has brought him worldwide acclaim and put him at the forefront of the global jazz scene.

Tia Fuller is a saxophonist, composer, and educator, and a member of the all-female band touring with Beyoncé. Fuller is currently a faculty member in the ensembles department at Berklee College of Music. Fuller has regularly performed with a number of jazz artists, including Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ralph Peterson Septet, the T.S. Monk Septet, the Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra, the Rufus Reid Septet, the Sean Jones Quintet and the Nancy Wilson Jazz Orchestra.
