Franz Anton Hoffmeister was not only a composer of the Viennese
Classic, but also a music publisher and a friend of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, who dedicated one of his most beautiful string
quartets to him, the “Hoffmeister Quartet” KV 499. As a composer
he was highly esteemed by his contemporaries. This CD presents
for the ?rst time his complete compostions for viola: Besides the
Concertos for Viola and Orchestra in D major and in B-?at major,
the 12 Studies for Solo Viola are recorded here for the ?rst time.
