      Description hide

Flamboyant accordionist Renato Borghetti and his quartet present their new project ‘Gaita na Fábrica’ (Accordion in the Factory). It is produced entirely in the cultural space where Borghetti is developing his new social project, the ‘Fábrica de Gaiteiros’ (Factory of Accordionists). It is a magical, inspiring place where children and young adults can develop their love for music and at the same time learn how to play and build the ‘gaita ponto’ or 8 bass diatonic accordion, the instrument that represents the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Most of the twelve compositions on this album, are composed by Renato Borghetti and his musical friends who have been working together for over 20 years. They are the fruit of many years of shared friendship and travelling.

The compositions are a mature and contemporary twist on the typical rhythms from the south of Brazil. Milongas, vaneiras, xote and chamamés executed in an unconventional and almost classical and jazzy form.

      The Borghetti quartet is:
      Renato Borghetti: diatonic accordion
Pedrinho Figueiredo: soprano sax and flute
      Daniel Sá: guitars, musical director
      Vitor Peixoto: piano and cajon

      Biography
Renato Borghetti hails from southern Brazil, more precisely near the border with Argentina and Uruguay, and is of German-Italian ancestry. When he was 10 years old he started playing the “gaita ponto” as the diatonic harmonica is called in this region, and at the age of 21 he released his first album in 1984. Borghetti plays the virtuoso folk music of his native Rio Grande do Sul, which he combines with European elements into a contemporary mix of tango, polka, chamame, milonga and flamenco. He even is not afraid to put in a dash of Brazilian pop and jazz. The results is a unique, vibrant and contemporary sound. From the ’90 onwards Borghetti increasingly toured throughout Europe and released a total of three cds, which were nominated for the German ‘Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ and a ‘Latin Grammy’. He also regularly shared the stage with famous artists such as Stephane Grappelli, Ron Carter and Hermeto Pascoal. Renato has released two albums on Saphrane Records: Andanças and Gaita na Fábrica.
